You can definitely feel every little bump and crack in the sidewalk. On the other hand, I did stub my toe the other day and it really hurt. Also, the mesh adds to the barefoot feeling. If you wear a pair of thin socks you can feel the breeze blowing on your toes. Very nice for hot days, but I discovered that these are definitely not for winter in Boston!
